Standards and Metrology adopts two standards to enhance accessibility and inclusion in information technology and education

The Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO) has adopted two Jordanian standards based on international specifications, one in the field of information technology and office equipment, and the other in the field of educational organization management systems, supporting efforts to provide more inclusive environments that respond to the needs of beneficiaries.

The Acting Director-General of the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization, Engineer Wafa Al-Momani, emphasized the organization's commitment to developing the national standardization system and keeping pace with international benchmarks, contributing to enhancing accessibility and inclusion and improving the quality of services provided to various segments of society.

She told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that the Jordanian standard ISO/IEC 10779:2026, adopted from the ISO/IEC 10779:2020 standard, relates to "Information technology – Office equipment – Accessibility guidelines for the elderly and persons with disabilities," and provides guidelines that help consider the needs of these groups when designing, developing, and evaluating office equipment, thereby enhancing their ease of use and accessibility to their functions.

She added that the second Jordanian standard, ISO 21001:2026, adopted from the ISO 21001:2025 standard, concerning "Educational organizations – Management systems for educational organizations – Requirements with guidance for use," aims to develop the management systems of educational institutions, improve the quality of their services, and enhance their ability to meet the needs of learners and various stakeholders, supporting the provision of inclusive educational environments that consider the diverse needs of learners, including persons with disabilities.

She indicated that the adoption of these two standards comes within the framework of the role of standardization in supporting accessibility and reducing barriers that some segments of society may face in accessing and benefiting from services, in line with national trends aimed at promoting the rights of persons with disabilities and empowering them, and supporting the efforts led by the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Al-Momani explained that the organization continues to perform its national role in developing Jordanian standards based on international references, which enhances quality, establishes the principles of inclusion and accessibility, and contributes to upgrading the services provided to society.
