Sectors covered by certificates of conformity
The organization indicated that certificates of conformity cover a wide range of sectors, including industrial engineering products, such as construction products, electrical appliances and equipment, conductors, and electrical connection regulators.
It also includes chemical products, such as fertilizers, detergents, pesticides, and mineral oils, in addition to paper, cardboard, textile products, food and agricultural products, food-contact packaging materials, and personal hygiene products, such as sanitary pads, in accordance with the conformity programs and certificates offered by the organization.
Procedures for obtaining the certificate
Regarding the procedures for obtaining a certificate of conformity, the Standards and Metrology Organization explained that it begins with the establishment submitting an application and the required documents, then the organization studies the application and reviews the documents, and upon acceptance of the application, the contract is signed.
It added that the procedures subsequently include inspection or auditing and evaluation, depending on the type of certificate, followed by product examination and testing, provided that the certificate is issued after ensuring that all requirements are met.
It pointed out that the criteria for verifying product conformity are based on Jordanian standards and technical regulations, international standards, technical regulations in case the certificate is intended for export to a specific country, or technical requirements specific to the product, in addition to the results of tests, audits, and technical evaluation, depending on the type of certificate.
Subsequent periodic follow-up
The organization confirmed that it carries out subsequent periodic follow-up for products that have obtained certificates of conformity to verify continued compliance with requirements, through auditing, sampling, and conducting tests, according to the type of conformity certificate.
According to the organization, discovering that a product holding a certificate of conformity does not comply with the specifications may lead to the suspension or cancellation of the certificate, and the case is referred to the regulatory authorities to deal with it properly and take the necessary measures against the non-conforming product, according to the nature and severity of the violation.
Regarding the extent to which certificates of conformity contribute to reducing non-conforming products in the market, the organization explained that certificates of conformity provide confirmation of the conformity of products offered in the market.
The organization called on the consumer to look for the conformity mark on the product, noting that in case of any doubt, they can refer to the Standards and Metrology Organization to verify the validity and scope of the certificate.
Developing programs and expanding environmental certificates
The organization said that it is working continuously to develop conformity certificate programs and expand their areas to suit market needs and industrial development.
It added that the trend includes shifting towards environmental certificates, including the Jordanian Eco-Label certificate, which it described as the first of its kind in the region, in addition to seeking to enhance the recognition of certificates issued by it locally and internationally.
