Clearing Companies Syndicate Hopes to Resume Shipping Movement via Jaber-Naseeb Border Crossing on Wednesday

The head of the Syndicate of Clearing and Freight Transport Companies, Daifallah Abu Aqoula, said on Tuesday that the decision to close the Naseeb border crossing from the Syrian side affects the movement of goods transport between Jordan and Syria, noting that the Jaber border customs center continues its work and has not been announced closed so far.

Abu Aqoula added that the continued closure will affect shipping movement, especially if it extends for more than two or three days.

He pointed out that the movement of goods transport between the two sides was taking place according to the "back-to-back" system at the Naseeb customs center from the Syrian side, where incoming Gulf goods destined for Syria are transferred across the border point, with the necessity of having representatives and specialists to complete the unloading and transport operations.

He noted that the Syrian authorities removed customs clearance agents and workers from the Naseeb customs center, leaving only government agencies inside the crossing, pointing out the presence of large numbers of trucks inside both the Naseeb and Jaber customs centers, in addition to trucks at the gates of the Jaber customs.

He explained that some goods have arrived at the Port of Aqaba and were unloaded in preparation for organizing their manifests and loading them onto trucks for transport to Syria, but the continued closure may lead to disrupting transport operations and the accumulation of shipments.

Abu Aqoula pointed out that the daily shipping movement through the Jaber customs center amounts to about 1,500 shipments, including incoming and outgoing trucks, whether loaded with goods or empty, emphasizing the importance of resuming the transport movement of goods according to the usual mechanism to avoid truck congestion and the disruption of traders' interests.
