Moderate to heavy rainfall in various regions of the Kingdom on Tuesday and Wednesday night

Issam Yaqoub, a weather forecaster at the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD), said on Tuesday that Jordan has been affected since dawn on Tuesday by a state of atmospheric instability, resulting from the advance of a Red Sea depression coinciding with a cold upper trough, which led to disturbed weather conditions and rainfall ranging from moderate to heavy across various regions of the Kingdom.

Yaqoub added that the amounts of rainfall recorded at JMD weather stations until 3:00 PM on Tuesday reached about 5 mm in Karak, 7 mm in Zarqa, and 15 mm in Amman, in addition to the rainfall recorded at Queen Alia International Airport.

He explained that radar images indicate the continued occurrence of moderate to heavy rainfall in scattered areas of the Kingdom, including Amman, Karak, Qatraneh, Tafilah, Ma'an, Salt, Irbid, and Ajloun.

He pointed out that the state of atmospheric instability will continue on Wednesday, with expectations of heavy rainfall for short periods, accompanied by lightning and thunder in some areas, which may lead to the formation of torrents in valleys and low-lying areas.

He noted that winds will be moderate westerly, with a potential for gusting, especially in desert areas, drawing attention to the possibility of low horizontal visibility until Wednesday evening in a number of areas.

He added that the weather will be cold and pleasant in most regions of the Kingdom, while the Jordan Valley, Dead Sea, and Aqaba areas will witness the appearance of clouds at various altitudes, with a chance of brief rain showers during nighttime hours in limited parts of the eastern regions, sometimes accompanied by thunder.

Regarding Thursday's forecasts, Yaqoub said the weather will be pleasant in most regions of the Kingdom and moderate in the Jordan Valley, Dead Sea, and Aqaba, with a slight drop in temperatures. It is also expected to be cold at night in most regions, with low-level cloud cover and a possibility of rain showers in the north of the Kingdom and limited parts of the central regions during the late night hours.

He added that temperatures will drop slightly on Friday, making the weather pleasant, while maximum temperatures will range between 21 and 22 degrees Celsius in most regions, and between 25 and 29 degrees in the Jordan Valley areas. There also remains a weak chance of scattered rain showers during the early morning hours.

Yaqoub warned of low horizontal visibility during the night and early morning hours due to fog formation over high mountain heights and parts of the plains and Badia, in addition to the risk of torrents forming in valleys and low-lying areas and the occurrence of thunderstorms.

Regarding weather forecasts for the coming days, he indicated the possibility that the weather condition will continue in the northern Kingdom and limited parts of it on Thursday and Friday.

The Public Security Directorate (PSD) urged the public to exercise caution and take heed in light of the atmospheric instability affecting the Kingdom, and the accompanying rainfall, torrent formation, and rising water levels in some areas.

The Directorate called for staying away from the sides of valleys, torrent paths, and water accumulation sites, and not risking crossing roads witnessing high water levels, whether on foot or using vehicles.

It also called for exercising caution while driving in areas experiencing rainfall and leaving a safe distance between vehicles.

The Public Security Directorate emphasized the importance of adhering to guidelines and instructions issued by competent authorities to preserve public safety, calling on everyone to cooperate and take the necessary preventive measures to avoid accidents and risks that may result from the weather conditions.
