"Southern Mazar Education" follows up on procedures for student parliamentary elections in schools

The Director of Education for the Southern Mazar District, Dr. Ali Al-Faqara, accompanied by the Director of Administrative and Financial Affairs, Dr. Itimad Al-Jaafra, and the Director of Educational Affairs, Mohammad Al-Saraira, followed up on the preparatory procedures for implementing student parliamentary elections in a number of the district's schools to assess school readiness and compliance with the regulations governing the electoral process, ensuring its implementation in accordance with approved procedures.

During the tour, Al-Faqara and his accompanying delegation were briefed on the organizational measures taken by school administrations and educational staff, the mechanisms for preparing a suitable school environment to conduct the elections, and introducing students to their objectives and the importance of participating in choosing their representatives, thereby enhancing their awareness of the concepts of democracy and active citizenship, and instilling the values of dialogue, respect for the opinions of others, and equal opportunities.

Al-Faqara emphasized the importance of student parliamentary elections as a practical educational experience that contributes to building students' personalities, developing their leadership skills, and enhancing their ability to express their opinions and proposals in a civilized and responsible manner. He pointed out the role of the school in preparing a conscious generation equipped with communication and teamwork skills, and capable of bearing responsibility and positive participation in their community.

He added that this experience provides students with the opportunity to apply the principles of democracy and participate in decision-making, learn the foundations of choosing representatives based on competence, the ability to shoulder responsibility, and serve their peers—away from fanaticism and discrimination—alongside promoting the values of integrity, transparency, and justice, and instilling a culture of positive competition and accepting results in a responsible spirit.

For her part, Al-Jaafra affirmed that student parliamentary elections represent one of the educational practices aimed at enhancing student participation in school life and developing their sense of responsibility toward their school and peers. She stressed the importance of providing the necessary administrative and organizational requirements to ensure the electoral process runs smoothly and regularly, in accordance with approved instructions.

She added that the success of this experiment requires complementary roles between school administrations and educational staff by raising students' awareness of the electoral objectives and mechanisms, clarifying the responsibilities of candidates and elected representatives, and providing them with the opportunity to consciously participate in choosing those who express their views and needs. This enhances the values of belonging and active citizenship and entrenches the principles of dialogue and mutual respect within the school environment.

In turn, Al-Saraira pointed out the importance of utilizing student parliamentary elections to develop leadership, communication, and dialogue skills, and to foster the spirit of initiative and teamwork. He emphasized the necessity of building upon this experience to enrich school life and encourage students to put forward ideas and initiatives that contribute to developing the educational environment and strengthening the partnership between them and school administrations.

The tour included reviewing the measures taken to raise students' awareness of the duties of their elected representatives, their role in conveying the demands and proposals of their peers, and following them up in cooperation with school administrations. This grants students a broader space to participate in improving their school reality and reinforces their sense of the importance of their role in making decisions that affect their educational lives.
