Prime Minister Jafar Hassan directed the expansion of the free school transportation project in the southern Badia regions to include 3,500 new students, starting from the beginning of the second semester next.
According to the decision, the total number of benefiting students in the southern Badia regions will be 12,500 students, instead of 9,000 students, in addition to nearly 900 teachers.
The decision to expand the free school transportation project comes in light of the government's evaluation of the implementation of the first phase, which started in the southern Badia schools at the beginning of the current academic year. The project contributed to addressing the transportation challenges faced by many students and alleviating the burdens on them and their families by providing integrated and free school transportation for students, so that the student does not bear any cost.
The government had started implementing the project in partnership with the private sector, to include in its first phase 61 government schools in the southern Badia, through the provision of 120 buses.
During the next phase, the smart application for free school transportation will be launched, which will enable parents to follow the movement of their children to and from schools, and know their arrival times, and will be linked to electronic tracking systems and cameras available in the buses.
As part of the plan to expand the free school transportation project, the government will generalize the experience to include later areas in the central and northern parts of the Kingdom.
