The King: Jordanians look not only at the laws issued by the Parliament, but also at the behavior and discourse that emanate from it.

His Majesty King Abdullah II addressed the members of the National Assembly, both the Senate and the House of Representatives, on Monday, saying that "Jordanians look not only at the laws issued by this chamber, but also at the behavior and discourse that emanate from it."

During his delivery of the Speech from the Throne, opening the third ordinary session of the 20th Parliament, he emphasized that the interest of the Jordanian citizen must be at the core of every decision, not on its margins.

His Majesty said: "It behooves your assembly to be a voice for the nation, a guardian of the public interest, and a watchdog over government performance, placing the interest of Jordanians first."

His Majesty affirmed that "your difference in opinion is a strength, as long as the interest of Jordan is the ultimate goal."

His Majesty said: "Your esteemed assembly is a fundamental and primary pillar in political life, for the nation is the source of powers and the spring of its strength. By adhering to this principle, our internal front remains impregnable and protected."

His Majesty added: "A strong Jordan is most capable of defending its interests and the causes of its nation, to be rising to its responsibilities and a pillar of support for its brothers."

His Majesty said: "From this podium, I address you to confirm, as I have always emphasized, that the interest of the Jordanian must be at the core of every decision, not on its margins; for true development is what the citizen feels the impact of in their livelihood, opportunities, education, healthcare, and the future of their children."

His Majesty pointed out that Jordan is proceeding on the path of economic modernization, saying: "Work has begun on a number of major ambitious projects that seek to bolster the national economy, enhance its resilience, and build upon Jordan's pivotal role in the region. I call upon the government to work on accelerating their completion."
