Sudan: 1,275 people displaced from villages in Blue Nile in one day

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced on Wednesday that 1,275 people were displaced from several villages in the "Wad Al-Mahi" locality in Blue Nile State, southeastern Sudan, within a single day due to the deteriorating security situation.

The organization said in a statement that its field teams "estimated the displacement of 1,275 people from several villages in the Wad Al-Mahi locality in Blue Nile State during yesterday, Tuesday, due to the deteriorating security situation."

The statement explained that the affected villages included Amiri, Jebel Nimr, Abu Qadaf, Bashkarkat, Abu Jankour, Makla, Matnaqiya, Jebel Al-Nour, Menza, and Menshiling.

It noted that the displaced moved to various locations in the Roseires locality in Blue Nile State, following another incident reported on Monday, October 5.

The organization confirmed that "the situation remains tense and highly volatile," and that it "continues to monitor the situation closely."

This brings the number of displaced people from the villages of "Wad Al-Mahi" locality in Blue Nile State to 6,800 over the past four days, according to the IOM.

On September 13, the organization announced the displacement of 99,277 people, equivalent to 19,497 families, in Blue Nile State during the period from January 11 to August 23.

Blue Nile State has been witnessing a military escalation over the past few days, against the backdrop of attacks launched by the "Rapid Support Forces" and the "Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North" allied with them on several areas in the state.

Humanitarian suffering in Sudan is worsening due to the war between the army and the "Rapid Support Forces," which has been ongoing since April 2023 due to a dispute over the unification of the military institution, resulting in the deaths of tens of thousands and the displacement of about 13 million people.
