Standards and Metrology Organization seizes 5,000 expired vehicle tires and 300 counterfeit rims

The staff of the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO) seized 5,000 expired vehicle tires and 300 rims bearing counterfeit global brand names.

The organization told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that the items were confiscated during an inspection raid, supported by security services, on 4 tire sales and storage sites in Amman. They were stored improperly and hidden in secret warehouses that lacked the minimum safety standards.

The organization indicated that inspection teams faced resistance to prevent them from opening the warehouses in an attempt to hide the violations, but the persistence of the organization's staff and the support of security services prevented this.

It explained that this seizure prevented the non-compliant tires from reaching citizens' vehicles, confirming that the strictest legal measures will be taken against the violators in accordance with the Standards and Metrology Law No. 22 of 2000 and its amendments.

It emphasized the need to be careful when buying tires and to ensure reading the production date, which consists of 4 digits engraved on the side of the tire, as the first two digits represent the week of manufacture and the last two digits represent the year of manufacture; "the number 2526 indicates the 25th week of 2026."

It called for avoiding the purchase of tires stored for long periods, even if they appear new, stressing the necessity of storing them in shaded and dry places, away from direct sunlight or high heat and chemical substances such as oils and solvents, which cause rubber to crack and deteriorate prematurely. In addition, it is necessary to visually inspect the tires to ensure there are no cracks or side bulges, and it is important to ensure purchasing from authorized agents and licensed shops that provide an official purchase invoice that guarantees rights and proves the source of the goods.

The organization urged citizens to report any violations or irregularities in the markets immediately by contacting the unified complaints line (phone and WhatsApp) at (065301243).
