"Mechanical Professions": About 60 complaints regarding "tire shop" pricing, and a new price list within days

The head of the Mechanical Professions Syndicate, Jamil Abu Rahma, said on Friday that the syndicate has received about 60 complaints related to violations of "tire shop" service pricing since the beginning of 2026 until now.

Abu Rahma explained that the tire shop service price list was launched in 2019 and is updated annually, noting that the maximum limit for internal tire maintenance is two and a half dinars, while the fee for repairing a puncture is one dinar per patch.

He indicated that the syndicate is currently working on preparing a new price list for the year 2026-2027, expecting it to be issued within days, and that it will include tire shop services for sedan, saloon, and jeep vehicle tires, in addition to large vehicles and trucks.

He pointed out that the current price list was prepared in partnership with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, noting that the responsibility for monitoring compliance with it falls on the Consumer Protection Department at the Ministry.

Abu Rahma said that the lack of oversight contributes to chaos in the labor market, explaining that the syndicate will begin, starting Sunday, in cooperation with the Consumer Protection Department at the Ministry of Industry and Trade, field tours of tire shops to monitor compliance with the price list.

He added that the new price list will be published via social media to enable citizens to know their rights and verify the fees for the services provided to them.

Regarding the complaints, Abu Rahma said that the syndicate has received about 60 complaints since the beginning of the year, and that most of the shops against which complaints were filed have had measures and violations taken against them by the Consumer Protection Department before they committed to the specified price list.

He confirmed that the syndicate receives citizens' complaints regarding any exploitation or price hikes via the hotline and its numbers published on social media, noting that the syndicate takes measures in partnership with the Ministry of Industry and Trade against violating shops.

Abu Rahma explained that the price list aims to guarantee the rights of both the citizen and the professional, noting that the fee is not calculated in the same way in all cases, as the basic cost is related to removing the tire, while an additional fee is calculated for each puncture thereafter.

He indicated that the syndicate teams that will participate in the inspection tours consist of three people, accompanied by an employee from the Consumer Protection Department, with the aim of inspecting the facilities and verifying the complaints received.

He pointed out that the field committees affiliated with the syndicate monitor the tire shop market and are responsible for verifying complaints, and in the event that a violation is proven, action is taken against the facility.
