Safadi: Israel Undermines Peace Prospects Unless Faced with Effective International Response

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi said that Israel will continue its policies and measures that destroy all chances of achieving peace unless it is met with an effective international response that translates the international community's support for the two-state solution into practical steps that deter Israel.

Safadi warned, in an intervention during a meeting marking the first anniversary of the New York Declaration Conference, organized by Saudi Arabia and France, that while the international community is working to achieve just peace, the Israeli government is undermining the two-state solution, which is the only way to peace, through its illegal measures that undermine the chances of achieving it.

Safadi said, in the meeting organized by France, Britain, Canada, and Saudi Arabia, that Israel declares that it does not care about the positions of the majority of the world's countries that support the two-state solution because it has not been held accountable for its measures that undermine the chances of achieving peace and has not been faced with deterrent international measures.

Safadi praised, in the meeting opened by French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Ministers Ante Burnham and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, and attended by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, the positions of countries that recognized the Palestinian state and took action against Israeli policies, but stressed the need for broader and stronger measures to confront settlement expansion, land confiscation, and exacerbating the humanitarian disaster in Gaza.

The meeting was attended by heads of state and representatives of 29 countries in addition to the European Union.
