Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi affirmed on Thursday that the region will not enjoy peace unless an independent Palestinian state with sovereignty over the Palestinian national land is established according to the two-state solution.
Safadi said in an intervention at a meeting of the International Coalition for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution organized by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Kingdom of Norway, and the European Union: "If the international community does not move immediately and with clear and effective steps to confront the illegal Israeli measures that undermine the two-state solution, Israel will destroy what remains of the chances for achieving peace"
Safadi warned during the meeting, which was chaired by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide, and the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas, that Israel is working according to systematic policies to destroy all chances of achieving a just peace in the region.
Safadi also stressed the need for effective action to stop the expansion of settlements, the confiscation of land, and the perpetuation of hate speech, and the attacks on Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied Jerusalem.
Safadi said: "Today, as we meet, Israeli ministers are coming out rejecting the two-state solution, calling for the expulsion of Palestinians from their land, refusing to recognize that Palestinians have the right to life, freedom, and dignity"
Safadi emphasized the need for the international community to confront the Israeli government with deterrent measures and to use the tools provided by international law to deter the Israeli government from its path, which will keep the region a theater of war and conflict, and will deprive all the peoples of the region, including Israel, of the right to live in security and peace"
Safadi warned that the alternative to the two-state solution is the one-state situation, which will perpetuate racial discrimination that cannot lead to peace.
Safadi said: "What we are facing now is an occupation perpetuated by the Israeli government every day, and the destruction of the future of five million Palestinians living under this occupation. If these five million do not take their right to freedom and dignity, the region will remain a theater of conflict"
In a press intervention during a media stop for the International Coalition for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, Safadi warned in response to a question about the danger of expanding settlements, confiscating land, and attacking holy sites.
Safadi specifically pointed to the danger of E1 settlements, which we must all work to prevent from being established because they will divide the West Bank and further undermine the chances of implementing the two-state solution.
Safadi also warned of the systematic measures of the Israeli government to change the historical and legal status quo in the holy sites in Jerusalem.
He said that attacks on holy sites push towards "igniting a religious war that Israel can start, but no one will be able to end it"
Safadi emphasized the danger of the hate speech perpetuated by Israel, which appears in statements by Israeli government ministers that clearly reflect that their methodology is one of war, and that they want to kill the two-state solution, including their ridiculous hints that the Palestinian issue can be resolved at the expense of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, which is impossible because we will prevent it with all our capabilities"
Safadi said: "If we do not all move to deter the measures taken by the Israeli government to curb its aggression and expansion, there will be no two-state solution we are talking about. There will be a sustained conflict that will escalate"
Safadi had participated earlier in the day in a meeting hosted by the UK Foreign Secretary and sponsored by Jordan and Qatar on health and humanitarian aid access in Gaza.
The meeting stressed the need to remove all Israeli obstacles that prevent the reconstruction of the health sector in Gaza and the adequate and sustainable entry of aid.
Safadi also continued his meetings with his counterparts participating in the high-level meetings of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
Safadi discussed with his counterparts ways to expand bilateral cooperation and regional situations.
Safadi met with the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, the Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of India Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, the British Foreign and Development Secretary Ed Miliband, and the Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. He also met with the US Ambassador to Turkey and the Presidential Envoy for Syria and Iraq Tom Barak.
