Russia intensifies attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities

Ukrainian Prime Minister Sergii Korsunsky said on Wednesday that Russia has started launching large-scale attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, following nighttime strikes targeting energy facilities in Kyiv and other regions.

Korsunsky wrote on the Telegram app that the attack is the first "of this scale and with this complex nature" since the end of the last heating season.

For its part, the Russian Ministry of Defense said that its forces launched a wide-scale attack during the night targeting a communication center in Kyiv and energy facilities in the area around the capital that it said support Ukrainian military production, in addition to infrastructure in the Izmail port in the Odessa region.

The ministry said that the strikes targeted in Kyiv the "De Novo" data center, which it described as a major internet traffic exchange center that provides services to the Ukrainian armed forces.

In the Kyiv region, the ministry mentioned that it targeted the Kyivska electrical substation near Nalevayivka, the Kyiv hydroelectric station in Vyshhorod, the Trypillska thermal station, and an energy storage facility in Horenychi.

It added that these facilities supply electricity to the military-industrial complex and military sites in Kyiv and its surroundings.

In the Odessa region, the ministry said that the strikes hit an industrial complex in the Izmail port, which is used to receive, store, and transport military shipments and fuel intended for the Ukrainian army.

It also announced the targeting of a dry cargo ship in the northwestern part of the Black Sea, saying it was transporting military equipment and dual-use goods to the port of Odessa.

Independent verification of the targets Russia claimed to have targeted or the extent of the damage caused by the strikes was not possible.
