Explosions were heard in Kyiv early Wednesday in conjunction with the Ukrainian military issuing a warning for ballistic missiles, according to a journalist from Agence France-Presse.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned in a speech on Tuesday evening of a "large-scale Russian attack" on the capital, which has been under almost daily bombardment.
The Ukrainian authorities accuse Russia of systematically seeking to destroy the country's infrastructure as it fails to make progress on the front after nearly five years since the start of the war.
Recent Russian strikes have targeted two major bridges in the capital, and Ukraine's national electricity grid operator imposed restrictions on electricity supply on Tuesday following attacks on energy facilities as winter approaches.
