Russian strikes on Ukrainian regions, including Kyiv, have resulted in the death of eight people, according to authorities on Sunday, following Moscow's pledge to achieve its war objectives 'whatever the circumstances'.
Russia has intensified its attacks on the Ukrainian capital in the fifth year of its invasion of Ukraine, as the country prepares for another winter under the shadow of war.
Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko announced the death toll on Sunday afternoon, stating that Russian strikes hit a children's center in the northern city of Sumy, killing three people, including a 16-year-old girl.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that three people were killed in overnight strikes on the Zaporizhzhia region (south) and that a Russian drone strike killed one person in Kyiv.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that three people were injured and taken to the hospital in the capital.
The Kyiv City Council stated that 'the enemy continues to attack Kyiv without stopping using attack drones'.
It added that '16 locations' were damaged, including 12 homes in the suburbs of Kyiv, as well as a warehouse and a production facility.
Authorities in the Odesa region reported that a 'large-scale strike' on the south of the Black Sea region resulted in another death.
Regional official Oleh Kiper said that Russian strikes damaged a residential building, a medical institution, a hotel, a store, and a warehouse used for storing grain.
In a post on a social media platform on Sunday, Zelenskyy said 'Over the past week, the Russians launched more than 2,200 attack drones against Ukraine, as well as about 1,650 air bombs and 38 missiles of various types, many of them ballistic missiles'.
He added that the strikes targeted residential 'and civil infrastructure' in various regions of the country.
In Moscow, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that it had bombed a data center belonging to the company 'Kyivstar' in Kyiv and another belonging to the company 'Omega Telecom', stating that the companies provide services to the Ukrainian army.
It also published a photo of a drone with the words 'Digital Detox' (digital detox), confirming that the strikes targeted disabling the internet service in Ukraine.
The attacks occurred following a statement by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to the United Nations General Assembly that Moscow intends to continue its military campaign 'to the end'.
Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Sunday that its forces had captured a border village in the Kharkiv region of eastern Ukraine, where Russia controls several areas.
Russia has not announced the annexation of Kharkiv, unlike the regions of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson, but it has attacked the region and taken control of areas there since the start of the war.
The Kremlin has repeatedly stated its intention to assert control over the remainder of eastern Ukraine.
US-led talks to end the war, which began with Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022, have not made significant progress, while the United Nations has warned of a rising number of civilian casualties.
