Governor of the Ukrainian region of Odesa, Oleh Kiper, said on Tuesday that Russia launched a nighttime attack targeting the port infrastructure in the southern Ukrainian region on the Black Sea coast.
Kiper added that the attack affected residential buildings, logistical facilities, and transportation infrastructure, without clarifying the extent of the resulting damage.
In contrast, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that its forces targeted a logistics center in Odesa province designated for storing foreign military equipment, as well as a cargo ship and a ferry in the port of Chornomorsk, and railway facilities in western Ukraine.
In the Zaporizhzhia region, the Ukrainian Emergency Service announced the death of two people and the injury of another due to Russian attacks, without providing further details.
These field developments come as statements continue regarding the possibility of reaching understandings to limit the targeting of vital infrastructure in both countries.
And said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday that his country is ready to halt attacks on Russia if it receives guarantees from its partners that Moscow will refrain from targeting energy facilities, infrastructure, and food supply routes in Ukraine.
Zelenskyy's statements, published via the Telegram app, contradict President Donald Trump's announcement that Russia and Ukraine have officially agreed not to target each other's energy facilities.
Zelenskyy said that Kyiv is "not sure that Russia is ready to commit to any agreement," adding that ending the war requires practical steps, and that de-escalation regarding vital infrastructure could be a first step towards peace.
He added that Ukraine is ready to sign an agreement that prevents attacks on Russian infrastructure, provided that the agreement is "reliable and long-term" and has a real impact on the lives of the population.
Trump had said that Russia and Ukraine agreed not to target each other's energy facilities, adding that "Ukraine agreed not to target Russian energy facilities. Russia agreed to do the same."
