Public Works: Completion of various projects to address last rainy season observations

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, Omar Muharameh, said on Sunday that the roads in the Kingdom are in good condition, and the Ministry has not recorded any observations or received reports of erosion or closures caused by the heavy rains that some areas experienced in the past few days.

Muharameh added that the Ministry has not yet considered the rainfall that the Kingdom witnessed as a test of its readiness to deal with the rainy season, while affirming at the same time the Ministry's high readiness to deal with any emergency weather conditions.

He explained that the Ministry implemented a set of projects during the summer to address the observations and reports that were repeated during the last rainy season, based on technical and engineering studies that took into account climate change and the expected increase in rainfall amounts.

Muharameh pointed out that the Ministry, at the end of each rainy season, scrutinizes the observations and reports received and classifies the sites that are repeated in them as "hot spots" that require technical and engineering studies.

He explained that the studies conducted by the Ministry during the spring and the beginning of last summer resulted in the implementation of radical projects in 8 sites in the Kingdom to address the observations recorded during the previous rainy season.

He added that the Ministry implemented, in addition to those projects, dozens of projects through the directorates of public works in various regions of the Kingdom, including increasing the capacity of some fords and expanding them, and converting some of them from tubular fords to box fords.

He pointed out that the Ministry has almost finished all the projects, except for the work on the Samra ford in the Aghwar region, expecting to complete it by the end of this month.

He confirmed that the executed works were based on technical and engineering visions aimed at addressing the sites that witnessed observations during the last rainy season and reducing their recurrence during the next season.

Regarding field preparations, Muharameh said that the Ministry currently has 139 mechanisms distributed among its 108 field teams, which are spread across various regions of the Kingdom.

He added that the Ministry has contracted with private sector entities to provide 190 additional mechanisms when needed, affirming that the mechanisms available during the past two years were sufficient to deal with weather conditions.

He pointed out that the Ministry intervened during the last rainy season to support municipalities in some areas, especially in villages in Karak Governorate, although those areas are outside the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Public Works, to assist them in light of the pressure on municipal resources, mechanisms, and field teams.
