Namrouqa: Jordan continues its efforts to protect the historical and legal status quo of Jerusalem's holy sites

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Nancy Namrouqa participated, on Saturday, in the proceedings of the 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, hosted by the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

In Jordan's speech at the meeting, Namrouqa stated that Palestine will remain the central issue and the clearest test of the credibility of the international system. There can be no peace in the region, nor sustainable security for its peoples, without ending the occupation and fulfilling the Palestinian people's right to freedom and the establishment of their independent, sovereign state on their national soil along the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the two-state solution and in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions.

She emphasized the necessity of adhering to the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, implementing all its terms, and lifting all Israeli restrictions on the entry of sufficient and sustainable humanitarian aid into the Strip.

She reiterated Jordan's warning regarding the danger of illegal Israeli measures in the occupied West Bank, which include settler violence, settlement expansion, land confiscation, and violations of the historical and legal status quo of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, all of which undermine the chances for a two-state solution and all opportunities to achieve a just and comprehensive peace that ensures security and stability in the region.

Namrouqa affirmed that the Kingdom will continue to exert every possible effort to protect the historical and legal status quo of the holy sites in Jerusalem, based on the historical Hashemite Custodianship of Islamic and Christian holy sites.

She also stressed the necessity of supporting and protecting the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and enabling it to perform its duties in accordance with its UN mandate.

Namrouqa emphasized that from Palestine to all other crises in the region, the Jordanian position remains steadfast in supporting the nation-state and preserving its sovereignty and territorial integrity. Jordan supports the Syrian government in its efforts to rebuild on foundations that ensure Syria's unity, sovereignty, security, stability, and the safety of its territory and citizens, while preserving the rights of all Syrians. She also affirmed that Jordan stands with Lebanon and the stabilization of its security, supports the Lebanese government in asserting its sovereignty over all Lebanese territory, and stresses the necessity of Israel's withdrawal from the Lebanese territories it has occupied and the implementation of the understandings reached with the Lebanese government.

Namrouqa stressed Jordan's condemnation of any aggression against Arab countries, its full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, its condemnation of Houthi terrorist attacks on its territory and civilian and economic facilities, its rejection of targeting ships and maritime passages, and its affirmation that freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, the Red Sea, and Bab al-Mandab is a right guaranteed by international law.

She said that protecting our peoples begins with protecting international law from selectivity; for the law that is applied in one crisis and suspended in another loses its authority and undermines confidence in the international system.

Namrouqa affirmed Jordan's aspiration for the participation of the organization's member states, at the highest level, in the "Call for Action: Urgent Humanitarian Response for Gaza" conference, which Jordan will host on December 7, to consolidate respect for international humanitarian law, protect civilians and humanitarian workers, and prevent impunity.
