The 52nd session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers began on Saturday in Baghdad, following the arrival of all participating delegations in the Iraqi capital.
The spokesperson for the session, Ambassador Hassanein Kamel, stated that the meetings are being held on October 17 and 18, with the participation of 55 member and observer states, alongside UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, representatives from the Arab League, and more than 40 international governmental and non-governmental organizations.
The Palestinian cause tops the meeting's agenda, including issues of displacement, annexation, settlement expansion, attempts to Judaize Jerusalem, and the protection of holy sites, in addition to regional tensions and crises within the Islamic world.
The meetings will also discuss ways to combat terrorism and Islamophobia, enhance economic cooperation, investment, and intra-trade, as well as issues of water and food security, electrical interconnection, and energy.
Iraq assumes the presidency of the organization's Council of Foreign Ministers for one year and has prepared diplomatic programs aimed at bridging viewpoints and adopting dialogue as a means to resolve disputes among the 57 member states.
