Minister of Culture: Move to include ((Simsimiyya)) on ((UNESCO)) lists

Minister of Culture Mustafa Al-Rawashdeh announced the ministry's intention to form the "Aqaba Art Troupe" from young talents, and to work on expanding art training facilities in the governorate, in addition to seeking to include the Simsimiyya instrument on the lists of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization "UNESCO" in coordination with countries that share this heritage.

This came during Al-Rawashdeh's visit the day before yesterday, Tuesday, to the Aqaba Culture Directorate and the Art Training Center, where he reviewed the cultural and artistic programs and activities, and the training programs offered by the center in the fields of fine arts, drawing, Arabic calligraphy, and music.

Al-Rawashdeh said that the upcoming Aqaba troupe will work to represent the artistic and cultural identity of the governorate

and Jordan, noting that the talents included in the center, from children, young men and women, and the elderly, reflect the growing interest in arts and culture in Aqaba.

He praised the performance of the child musicians and the artistic skills they demonstrated, valuing the efforts of those responsible for training them, and emphasizing the importance of providing the appropriate environment to nurture local talents and refine their capabilities, in a way that expands their participation in the cultural and artistic scene.

He added that the ministry will explore the possibility of providing a wider space for art training by utilizing one of the youth centers, with the aim of accommodating larger numbers of trainees and providing training opportunities for various age groups.

Regarding the Simsimiyya instrument, Al-Rawashdeh confirmed that the ministry is working to include it on UNESCO lists in cooperation and coordination with countries linked to this heritage that share in practicing and preserving it, due to the importance it represents in the musical heritage and the cultural and social identity of the city of Aqaba.

He stressed the importance of safeguarding local musical heritage, introducing new generations to it, and encouraging them to practice it, in a way that contributes to preserving the elements of Jordanian cultural heritage and passing them on to future generations.
