Minister of Culture Mustafa Al-Rawashdeh patronized, yesterday, Saturday, the activities of the 21st session of the Ramtha Arabic Poetry Festival, coinciding with the inauguration of cultural and heritage projects in the district, in a step that reflects the interest in cultural movement and strengthening Ramtha's presence on the Jordanian cultural map.
During his opening of the festival and the 3rd Ramtha Arab Short Story Forum, organized by the Ramtha Cultural Forum, Al-Rawashdeh said that Jordan, the haven of the free and the beacon of literature and culture, was founded on two basic pillars: Arabism and culture, as the founder of the Jordanian state, King Abdullah I, was a poet who participated with great poets.
The Council of Literature and Thought, which was established by King Abdullah I, included a constellation of writers and intellectuals who came from brotherly Arab countries, which contributed to enriching the cultural and political movement in Jordan.
Al-Rawashdeh added, in the presence of Senator Akef Al-Zoubi, the head of the Ramtha Municipality Committee Jamal Abu Obaid, and a number of those interested in cultural affairs, that Jordan, from the founding King to the reinforcing King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein, continues to bet on culture as a title for renaissance, progress, and advancement, protecting and strengthening identity, and documenting the Jordanian narrative, the story of the land and the human being in its Arab and human extension.
He pointed out the importance of festivals in creating a state of positive and active intellectual and cultural movement for communication between generations.
A number of poets from Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq recited a number of poems in classical Arabic, which included national and romantic themes.
On the sidelines of the visit, Al-Rawashdeh inaugurated a number of cultural and heritage projects, including the Ramtha Mural, which was executed by Dr. Mohammed Khair Deibajeh, Shadi Ghawanmeh, and Nasr Al-Zoubi, and includes artistic and cultural elements that embody the district's specificity and local identity.
He also inaugurated the Heritage Museum (Bayt Al-Ramtha), which is located in the old post office building, for what it represents in terms of connection to the city's memory and history.
The Ministry of Culture supported the rehabilitation of the (Bayt Al-Ramtha) building and provided it with heritage pieces, to preserve the popular heritage and document aspects of heritage life in the district, and to provide an opportunity for visitors and new generations to learn about the history of Ramtha and its customs and traditions.
The projects included the Cultural Garden in Al-Shiah Park, which constitutes a space designated for children, hosting cultural activities and encouraging reading and knowledge development.
