Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Saturday that the time has come to ensure the establishment of a Palestinian state based on United Nations resolutions.
Lavrov said during his speech at the United Nations meetings in New York that the situation in the occupied West Bank is deteriorating as Israel intensifies its settlement activities, adding that the Security Council approved a peace plan for the Gaza Strip about a year ago, but peace has not been achieved yet.
He added that Russia, along with other countries, is ready to contribute constructively to the stability of the Middle East region of strategic importance, noting that resolving the crisis requires building trust between the Gulf states, Arab countries, and Iran.
Lavrov's statements come at a time when the region is witnessing escalating tensions, as he said that the repeated armed confrontations in the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz are harming global navigation and trade, announcing the launch of an initiative to establish peace in the Gulf region and resolve the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz.
Regarding Iran, Lavrov said that the United States and Israel targeted Iranian civilian infrastructure and nuclear facilities under the International Atomic Energy Agency's safeguards, considering that targeting Iranian nuclear facilities has dealt a blow to the agency's authority.
He said that using force to kill Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and members of his family is unacceptable.
Lavrov added that Russia believes that addressing the crisis in the region requires halting confrontations and building trust between the Gulf states, Arab countries, and Iran.
On the Ukrainian file, Lavrov said that the objectives of the Russian special military operation in Ukraine will be achieved, the threats to Russia's security will be eliminated, and peace will return.
