Palestine: Israeli Plans Aim to Undermine the Establishment of a Palestinian State

The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates warned, on Sunday, of the danger of the statements made by Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, in which he called for a war on the occupied West Bank and a repetition of what happened in the Gaza Strip, and to dismantle the Palestinian National Authority, considering it an explicit call to escalate aggression and expand the crimes of occupation, annexation, and displacement.

The Ministry said, in a statement, that these statements reveal the reality of Israeli plans aimed at undermining the possibility of establishing an independent Palestinian state, and imposing a new reality by force on the occupied Palestinian land, in gross violation of international law, resolutions of international legitimacy, and signed agreements.

It stressed that the inflammatory calls to wage a comprehensive war on the West Bank and destroy Palestinian cities and camps come in the context of the policies pursued by the Israeli government of killing, displacement, settlement, and land confiscation, and an attempt to impose annexation by force.

The Foreign Ministry emphasized that the Palestinian National Authority and Palestinian state institutions represent part of the Palestinian national project and one of the achievements of the Palestinian people on the path to realizing their independent sovereign state, holding the Israeli government fully responsible for the repercussions of any attempt to harm or undermine it.

It warned that the continued international silence towards the inflammatory statements and Israeli policies encourages the occupation government to proceed with its plans, and pushes the region towards more tension, violence, and instability.

It called on the international community, led by the UN Security Council and the US administration, to assume its political and legal responsibilities and take immediate and tangible measures to compel Israel to stop its aggression against the Palestinian people, and to stop settlement, annexation, and displacement, and to protect the Palestinian people and its national institutions.

The Foreign Ministry affirmed that achieving security, stability, and peace requires ending the Israeli occupation and realizing the independence of the State of Palestine on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with resolutions of international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative.
