Labor: Discussing the extension of the deadline for correcting the status of expatriate workers.. and the decision is in the hands of the Council of Ministers

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Labor, Muhammad Al-Zayid, said on Tuesday that the ministry will assess today and tomorrow the current situation after the expiration of the deadline for correcting the status of illegal non-Jordanian workers, in preparation for discussing the details of the extension or not.

Al-Zayid added, in press statements on Tuesday, that the labor directorates will continue to receive applicants until 5:00 PM on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, which is the end of the four-month deadline approved by the Council of Ministers, which began in June last year.

He explained that the deadline included all nationalities of illegal non-Jordanian workers, including domestic workers, and gave employers, homeowners, and workers an opportunity to benefit from the scheduled exemptions, which included a deduction of more than 50% of work permit fees for each previous year, and exemption from fines due to the Ministry of Labor and the Ministry of Interior, in accordance with the provisions of the Residence and Foreigners Law.

He pointed out that the decision to extend, if taken, requires a decision from the Council of Ministers, considering that the original deadline was approved by a decision of the Council.

Al-Zayid pointed out that as of October 1, 2026, an electronic deportation notice will be automatically placed on the illegal non-Jordanian worker who has not reconciled his status.

He added that those wishing to reconcile the status of workers after the deadline will have to apply to the Ministry of Labor to request the cancellation of the deportation notice, and if the request is approved, a deportation cancellation fine of 5,000 dinars must be paid, in addition to paying all work permit fees and fines due to the Ministry of Labor, and fines due to the Ministry of Interior for workers with a residence permit.

Al-Zayid confirmed that the ministry will continue its inspection tours, and that the employer who is caught with an illegal non-Jordanian worker will be imposed a fine of no less than 800 dinars for each illegal worker.
