Jordan Strongly Condemns Continued Incursions by Extremist Settlers into Al-Aqsa Mosque

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned the ongoing incursions by extremist settlers into Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif, the most recent of which occurred today, and the accompanying unacceptable provocative practices carried out by the extremists; a blatant violation of the historical and legal status in Al-Haram Al-Sharif and desecration of its sanctity, and the escalating inflammatory statements by extremist Israeli officials.

The official spokesperson for the Ministry, Ambassador Fuad Al-Muhtaseb, affirmed the Kingdom's absolute rejection and strong condemnation of the continued repeated incursions by extremist settlers into Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif, and the accompanying provocative actions; considering them a flagrant breach of international law and international humanitarian law, and a provocative act and action rejected to impose new facts in Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif, by attempting to divide it temporally and spatially, stressing that Israel has no sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem and its holy sites.

Al-Muhtaseb warned of the consequences of the continuation of these violations, provocations, and inflammatory statements, calling on the international community to take a firm stance that obliges Israel, as the occupying power, to stop all its irresponsible practices and ongoing violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, and to stop the illegal measures in the occupied West Bank and incitement against the Palestinian people.

Al-Muhtaseb reiterated that Al-Aqsa Mosque, with its entire area of 144 dunums, is a place of pure worship for Muslims, and that the Jerusalem Endowments and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Administration, affiliated with the Jordanian Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, is the sole legal entity responsible for managing all affairs of Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif and regulating entry to it.
