The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned the continued incursions by extremist settlers into the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram al-Sharif, the latest of which occurred on Sunday, under the protection of the Israeli occupation police, alongside the imposition of restrictions on the entry of worshippers and provocative practices inside the Noble Sanctuary. This constitutes a flagrant violation of the historical and legal status quo at the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram al-Sharif, a desecration of its sanctity, and an unacceptable provocation.
The official spokesperson for the Ministry, Ambassador Fouad Al-Majali, affirmed the Kingdom's absolute rejection and strong condemnation of the continued incursions by extremist settlers into the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram al-Sharif, the facilitation of these incursions by the Israeli occupation police, and the restriction of worshippers' entry, considering them a blatant breach of international law and international humanitarian law, and an unacceptable attempt to impose new facts on the ground at the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram al-Sharif and to divide it spatially and temporally.
Al-Majali stressed that Israel has no sovereignty over the occupied city of Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites.
He warned against the consequences of the continuation of these violations and provocative practices, especially in light of calls by extremist groups to intensify incursions.
Al-Majali called on the international community to take a firm international stance compelling Israel, as the occupying power, to halt its violations and illegal practices against the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, and to cease all measures restricting the access of worshippers to the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram al-Sharif.
He reiterated that the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque in its entirety, spanning 144 dunams, is a place of worship exclusively for Muslims, and that the Jerusalem Awqaf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department, affiliated with the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs and Holy Places, is the sole legal authority with exclusive jurisdiction to manage all affairs of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram al-Sharif and regulate entry to it.
