Jordan and Germany Sign Financing Agreements to Support Education and Water Worth 96.5 Million Euros

The Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation signed two financing agreements worth (96.5) million euros with the German Reconstruction Bank to support Jordan's priorities in the education and water sectors, where Minister Zeina Toukan signed on behalf of the Jordanian side, and Jan Fiegl Mann, representing the bank, signed on behalf of the German side, in the presence of Dr. Matthias Schmidt-Rosen, Director of the Bank's office in Jordan, and Dr. Bertram von Moltke, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Jordan, and a number of officials from both sides.

The first agreement includes a grant of (36.5) million euros to finance the third phase of the program "Accelerating the Access of Syrian Refugee Children to Formal Education in Jordan", to ensure the continued provision of formal education opportunities for Syrian refugee children and to alleviate the pressure on the Jordanian education system. The second agreement is worth (60) million euros to support the project "Adaptation and Protection from the Effects of Climate Change: Azraq Wells Field and Main Transmission Line", which aims to enhance the sustainability and security of drinking water supply through the rehabilitation of the main transmission line from Azraq to Kho and the associated pumping station, in addition to implementing measures to reduce the salinity of groundwater extracted from the Azraq Wells Field.

Toukan praised the strategic partnership between Jordan and Germany, and that this cooperation reflects the continuous support provided by Germany to the Kingdom in implementing its development priorities in accordance with the economic modernization vision, which places water security and quality education at the core of its priorities, thereby supporting the comprehensive modernization paths pursued by the government.

For his part, German Ambassador von Moltke commented: "Under the two agreements signed today, we are proud to support Jordan in two of its most prominent national challenges: ensuring the provision of quality education for all children, and enhancing the sustainability of drinking water supplies in the Kingdom. Germany remains a steadfast and reliable partner to Jordan, as we reaffirmed in July 2026 the importance of this partnership by strengthening our development cooperation with a total commitment of up to 684 million euros over the next two years."
