France summoned the Iranian ambassador on Wednesday over what the French Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pascale Andreani described as an Iranian disinformation campaign targeting the student protests in France.
Andreani said in a statement that the ambassador was informed that the false content published by official accounts of the Iranian Foreign Ministry online is "absolutely unacceptable," adding that Tehran's summoning of the French ambassador on October 6 has no basis.
She added, "These inappropriate provocations must stop."
Iranian state media reported that Tehran summoned the French envoy in Tehran on Tuesday over the ongoing student protests, accusing Paris of "violent treatment" of protesters and committing widespread human rights violations.
