First interactive electronic map of ancient olive trees to be launched soon

Researcher in agricultural affairs and Jordanian heritage, Dr. Ahmed Jabr Al-Shuraideh, revealed that the preparation and development of the first interactive electronic map specialized in surveying and documenting the locations of ancient olive trees in Irbid Governorate is nearing completion, in a step aimed at creating a comprehensive digital database that preserves the historical and environmental value of this national treasure.

Al-Shuraideh explained that the work on the map relied on a precise geographical and field survey methodology that included all districts of Irbid Governorate, where the locations of the trees were tracked and documented "village by village, and basin by basin." He added that the interactive map is in its final technical stages to be ready for digital launch, allowing those interested, researchers, and members of the local community to access accurate data on the locations, numbers, and geographical distribution of these trees.

Regarding the field distribution of ancient olive trees in the governorate, Al-Shuraideh indicated that the survey results showed that Al-Koura District ranks first in terms of the density and concentration of these trees, followed by Al-Mazar Al-Shamali District, and then Bani Kinana District.

In the same context, Al-Shuraideh highlighted the town of "Tibna" in Al-Koura District, confirming that it constitutes the largest concentration of ancient olive trees, not only at the district level but at the level of the entire Irbid Governorate; as the area alone hosts about 10,000 ancient olive trees, which make up about 70% of the total ancient olive trees in Al-Koura District, making it the main habitat and the largest reservoir for these historical trees that bear witness to the authenticity of the agricultural heritage in northern Jordan.
