Father Rifat Bader to "Alrai": Jordanian national unity is stronger than extremist ideologies

Director of the Catholic Center for Studies and Media, Father Rifat Bader, affirmed that the Jordanian family stands as one rank behind the Hashemite leadership in the face of the painful tragedy witnessed by the Kingdom, stressing that the national unity that brings Jordanians, both Muslims and Christians, together will remain steadfast, and that Jordanians will continue their joint journey in facing various challenges.

In an exclusive interview with "Alrai," Father Bader said that the incident that took place yesterday constitutes a great tragedy for the nation, and is alien to Jordanian society, its customs, traditions, and values of coexistence, confirming that what happened will not undermine the cohesion of Jordanian society and its national unity.

He added that Jordanians stand today behind His Majesty King Abdullah II, recalling His Majesty's visit to Karak to console the families of the victims and check on the wounded, noting that the scene carried feelings of sadness and emotion regarding what happened, alongside the determination to continue the national journey with a spirit of solidarity and cohesion.

He stressed that Jordanians, Muslims and Christians, have lived together and will continue to live together, based on a history of partnership, love, and belonging, confirming that the citizen will remain by the side of his fellow citizen, and that unity of ranks represents a fundamental pillar in confronting extremist ideologies and everything that targets the security and stability of the nation.

Father Bader expressed his condemnation and denunciation of the incident, especially as it targeted a church and a funeral, at a time when participating in sorrows and consoling the family of the deceased represents one of the highest human, social, and religious sentiments that bring people together, pointing out that targeting such occasions doubles the magnitude of the pain felt by Jordanians.

He pointed out that the victims were performing important roles in serving society, including doctors working to treat patients, and teachers in universities and schools, confirming that their loss constitutes a loss for the entire nation.

He prayed for mercy for the victims and a speedy recovery for the wounded, and for God to protect Jordan, its leadership, and its security apparatuses, emphasizing the importance of continuing security efforts to uncover those involved in the incident and the parties behind them, and bringing them to justice.

Father Bader concluded by emphasizing the importance of strengthening national unity and emerging from this ordeal more cohesive and stronger, relying on the national, faith-based, and human sentiments that unite Jordanians, and stressing that extremist ideologies cannot find justification for acts that take the lives of innocent people and threaten the values and cohesion of society.
