Patriarch of the Holy City Kyrios Kyrios Theophilos III, members of the Holy Synod, and Archbishop Christophoros of Jordan expressed their condolences to themselves, the bereaved families of the victims, Jordanians of all spectrums, and the Hashemite leadership for the grave tragedy that has touched all hearts.
The Patriarch condemned the base, cowardly, and bloody act that claimed martyrs at the Saint George Greek Orthodox Church / Hamoud – Karak, affirming his confidence in the security services to apprehend the terrorists.
He emphasized that this ugly, bloody act will not undermine national unity and steadfastness, but will rather increase the adherence and trust of Christians and Muslims alike in the Hashemite leadership.
He stressed that Jordanians will remain defiant against every "dark" extremist ideology, and that this criminal act is far removed from and alien to Jordan's moderate Islam, calling on his subjects and the faithful to remain steadfast and pray during these moments.
He said: "If the message aims to uproot us from our Holy Land and displace us from it, it will only increase our attachment to it and our rootedness in it; no matter how intense the events around us become or how much we suffer, they will not drive us to leave our land. We are the children of this land, its living roots, and partners in its history, present, and future, and we will remain here as witnesses to the faith no matter how great the challenges and trials become."
Six people were martyred and about 28 others were injured following the criminal incident carried out by terrorists on Friday afternoon during a funeral inside a church in Karak Governorate.
The Public Security Directorate confirmed that investigations are underway at full speed and that the directorate will provide the media with the results of the investigations as they become available.
The Public Security Directorate warned against circulating any information regarding the shooting incident, and urged commitment to the official statements issued as they become available, under penalty of legal accountability.
