The average price of diesel in the United States reached a record high of $6.52 per gallon on Tuesday, for the first time in the country's history.
The American Automobile Association reported this in statistical data, coinciding with the ongoing repercussions of the US-Iran war on global economies.
Some states recorded high diesel prices, such as California, where the price exceeded $8.4 per gallon, Hawaii with over $7.1, and Michigan around $6.8, according to the same source.
As of September 7, the average price per gallon (3.7 liters) was $5.96.
In related news, the association announced that the average price per gallon of gasoline rose from $2.98 before the start of the war on Iran to $4.47, an increase of about 50 percent.
This jump in prices comes amid rising global energy prices due to supply disruptions, with the continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the disturbance of navigation in the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
On February 28 last year, the United States and Israel began a war on Iran that left thousands dead, while Tehran responded with attacks on Israel and US bases in the region.
The rise in gasoline costs threatens to increase the prices of goods in the United States, approaching the highest levels since the fuel crisis of 2022, when the price was $5.01 per gallon, driven by rising oil prices and energy supply disruptions following the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine war.
Diesel is used in most global economic activities, as it is fuel for trucks, trains, and ships within supply chains, in addition to its role in the agriculture sector, causing increased transportation costs and, consequently, higher prices for goods.
Global markets are experiencing significant fluctuations due to the US-Israeli war on Iran, which has contributed to rising oil prices and inflation levels, as well as slowing growth rates.
The rise in fuel prices has also led to protests in several countries.
