Demands for Maintenance of Guide Signs in Irbid

Citizens in Irbid Governorate called on the concerned and specialized authorities to maintain and update the guide signs and directional signs for tourist and archaeological sites and vital areas, after some of these signs became obscured or unclear to visitors and drivers, emphasizing the importance of expediting the handling of this matter to enhance the urban landscape and facilitate the movement of incoming and local tourism.

These demands come at a time when Irbid Governorate enjoys its historical and tourist wealth and its distinguished position on the Kingdom's tourism map; the governorate includes a number of the most prominent archaeological and natural sites; at the forefront of which is the archaeological city of “Umm Qais” archaeological (ancient Gadara)and the historical region of “Pella” (Bala) in addition to museums, cultural sites, forests, and natural parks. This makes the clarity of guide and promotional signs a pivotal matter for directing visitors and road users smoothly.

The Chairman of the Irbid Greater Municipality Committee, Imad Al-Azzam, explained that some sites and streets that are indicated to need modification and updating of their signs fall within the responsibility and scope of the Public Works Directorate. Pointing out that the Municipality, regarding the signs and specifications within its municipal jurisdiction, continuously performs periodic maintenance, change, and update to ensure their clarity and performance of the required purpose.

For her part, the Director of the Irbid Governorate Public Works Directorate, Engineer Rehab Al-Otoom, confirmed in a similar official response that the Directorate is following these observations with interest and conducting field monitoring tours to assess the condition of the guide signs and work on their maintenance and renewal and updating the damaged ones. Al-Otoom pointed out the necessity of attention and warning that the network of main roads and streets is shared between the Public Works Directorate and the Municipalities, which requires continuous coordination and follow-up to determine roles and responsibilities.
