As part of its ongoing efforts to protect urban and architectural heritage and preserve the historical identity of the city's urban aesthetics, the Greater Irbid Municipality has launched a comprehensive campaign to survey and document heritage and old buildings and houses located within its various districts.
The media spokesperson for the Greater Irbid Municipality, Ghaith Al-Tal, said that this initiative aims to build a specialized and accurate database of buildings of historical and architectural importance, which contributes to developing effective strategies to preserve this cultural legacy and invest in it in the future for projects to revive and develop old and historical areas in Irbid.
Al-Tal called on citizens and residents who own old houses or buildings believed to have historical, architectural, or social value to engage with this initiative, fill out the designated questionnaire, and provide any information or documentary data they have regarding those properties.
The media spokesperson clarified that filling out the questionnaire does not necessarily or automatically mean that the building is officially classified as a heritage building or directly included in the approved heritage registers; rather, this process aims to collect preliminary data for the purposes of documentation and evaluation by specialized technical committees and authorities.
Al-Tal emphasized that this step comes from the municipality's keenness to safeguard the city's architectural identity and strengthen community partnership with residents to protect Irbid's urban memory and pass it on to future generations.
