Cybercrime unit warns against fake links for stealing data and money

The Cybercrime Combating Unit has warned of the dangers of electronic links and fake applications circulating online, calling on citizens to exercise caution and vigilance, and not to download programs or access untrusted links.

In awareness guidelines, the unit explained that these links and applications may contain malicious software aimed at financial fraud and stealing personal data, emphasizing the importance of adhering to digital protection measures to avoid falling victim to these practices.

It called for not downloading programs or accessing fake links to watch movies, series, or matches, except from official stores and trusted websites.

It also stressed the necessity of not sharing personal or banking data via any untrusted link or one belonging to an unofficial entity, in addition to updating protection software and activating two-step verification on personal and banking accounts.

The unit emphasized the importance of immediate reporting when exposed to any case of electronic fraud or extortion, in order to take the necessary measures.
