The Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen announced, on Sunday, the interception and destruction of a ballistic missile launched by the Houthis towards the southern regions of Saudi Arabia.
The official spokesman for the Coalition forces, Brigadier General Turki Al-Maliki, said in a post on the American "X" platform that "air defenses intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched by the terrorist Houthi militia towards the southern region."
The Coalition did not specify the location of the missile interception or whether it caused any damage or casualties, while there was no immediate comment from the Houthis regarding the announcement.
This came hours after the Coalition announced the execution of a military operation on Sunday morning, which it said aimed to "neutralize vital sources" used by the Houthis to support their war effort and enhance their military capabilities, especially in the field of ballistic missiles and drones.
In a related context, the Saudi Civil Defense announced that the danger had passed for the city of Abha and Khamis Mushait governorate in the Asir region, as well as the Jazan region, in the southwest of the Kingdom, following the triggering of 3 separate early warning alerts.
The Civil Defense stated, in posts on the "X" platform, that the alerts were issued via the National Early Warning Platform for emergencies, before later announcing that the danger had ceased.
It called on residents to continue following safety instructions and to avoid gathering and taking photos.
Saudi authorities did not clarify the nature of the danger that necessitated the triggering of the alerts or whether it was related to the missile that the Coalition announced it had intercepted.
These developments come in light of continuous Houthi escalation against Saudi Arabia, which has included attacks with missiles and drones on sites inside the Kingdom, and the triggering of early warnings in several regions over the past few days.
Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia has been leading a military coalition to support the internationally recognized Yemeni government against the Houthi group, which has controlled the capital, Sanaa, and other governorates since September 2014.
