The Jordan Economic Forum held a discussion session hosting the Chinese Ambassador to the Kingdom, Chen Chuandong, to discuss Jordanian-Chinese economic relations, prospects for joint cooperation, and the outcomes of His Majesty King Abdullah II's recent visit to China, with the participation of the Forum's President, Khair Abu Saailik, and moderated by Senator Issa Murad, a member of the Forum's Board of Directors.
The Chinese Ambassador emphasized the keenness of both sides to follow up on the outcomes of the Royal visit and continue coordination and joint work to implement them.
Chen Chuandong revealed upcoming visits by Chinese trade, investment, and tourism delegations to the Kingdom within the next few days, coming from various provinces, cities, and municipalities, as part of efforts to translate the visit's outcomes into practical areas of cooperation.
He affirmed the Chinese side's readiness to deepen coordination and communication with Jordanian entities wishing to cooperate with Chinese companies, businessmen, and investors, noting that he is conducting contacts with parties in both countries to facilitate work and accelerate the implementation of understandings.
He indicated that the recent Royal visit came at a critical time, as the strategic partnership existing between the two countries since 2015 enters its second decade, and as they approach the celebration next year of the golden jubilee of the establishment of diplomatic relations, which began in 1977.
He added that the rapid developments at the regional and international levels gave the visit additional importance, both in supporting the economic modernization process in Jordan and in consolidating strategic cooperation between the two countries, stressing that geographical distance has not prevented the depth of relations and closeness between them.
He pointed out that His Majesty the King's discussions with the Chinese leadership covered various files of common interest, especially areas related to the future of both countries, and showed consensus on enhancing harmony between modernization trends in China and the Economic Modernization Vision in Jordan.
He affirmed China's readiness to transfer its expertise, experiences, and technologies to the Kingdom, which helps accelerate modernization and achieve the goals set by His Majesty since 2022, noting the importance of supporting the second executive program of the Economic Modernization Vision, in conjunction with other modernization tracks.
He pointed out that the joint statement issued at the conclusion of the visit outlined the broad lines for future cooperation between the two countries over the next decade, stressing the keenness to take maximum advantage of the momentum generated by the visit.
Chen Chuandong reviewed the stops of the Royal visit, which included Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Beijing, noting the economic and technological transformations witnessed by Chinese cities over the past decades, and the areas for benefit and cooperation provided by their experiences.
He said that Shenzhen is the third-largest Chinese city in terms of economic size, with a GDP of about $500 billion in 2025, reviewing its transformation over five decades from a fishing village into a modern city, and noting the possibility of Jordan benefiting from its experience in building a new green and environmentally friendly city that relies on renewable energy.
Regarding the vehicle sector, the Ambassador noted that he is following up on the file of mechanical malfunctions related to the sudden stopping of some Chinese vehicles while driving, confirming that work is underway to address the problem appropriately.
For his part, Abu Saailik emphasized that Jordanian-Chinese relations are based on mutual respect, and that the approaching fiftieth anniversary of their establishment constitutes an important occasion to build on what has been achieved and expand areas of economic cooperation between the two countries.
He pointed out that the recent Royal visit was a prominent milestone in these relations, and that starting it in Shanghai, then Shenzhen, before concluding it in Beijing reflected the importance of the economic and technological dimension, and the interest in benefiting from the Chinese experience, noting the signing of a number of memorandums of understanding during the visit.
Regarding the trade balance deficit, Abu Saailik explained that what is required is to increase the value-added of Chinese investments in the Kingdom, especially in technology, and to expand cooperation to discover additional areas for joint work.
The session moderator, Senator Issa Murad, emphasized the importance of translating the distinguished relations between the two countries into tangible projects in Jordan, calling for strengthening the presence of major Chinese companies, their benefit from the agreements to which Jordan is a party, and expanding cooperation to include multiple economic sectors.
He pointed out that work has begun in an organized manner in some areas, including transport and automobiles, expressing his hope that this cooperation will extend to other sectors, and asking about the role of the two countries in activating the memorandum of understanding related to the "Belt and Road" initiative and turning it into joint projects.
Murad drew attention to the importance of cooperation in education and information technology, which are among the areas focused on by His Majesty the King, noting the teaching of the Chinese language in Jordanian schools and universities, including Mutah University, and what this represents as a step to enhance communication between the two countries.
He affirmed that Jordan's balanced relations with various countries provide a basis for enhancing cooperation with China, praising the Ambassador's interest in developing bilateral relations, his experience in the Arab region, and his proficiency in the Arabic language.
At the end of the meeting, a discussion took place between the attendees and the Chinese Ambassador on ways to expand economic and investment cooperation between the two countries, benefit from Chinese expertise in technology and infrastructure, mechanisms for translating the outcomes of the Royal visit into joint projects, and enhancing the presence of Chinese companies in the Kingdom and increasing the value-added of their investments.
