Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmail Baghaei announced on Friday the holding of a regional meeting at the foreign ministerial level hosted by the Sultanate of Oman on Monday, with the participation of 8 countries bordering the Gulf.
Baghaei explained in a press statement that his country will organize a regional meeting with the participation of the countries bordering the Gulf, according to the official Iranian news agency (IRNA).
Baghaei stated that the meeting will be held on Monday, September 14, at the level of foreign ministers, hosted by Oman, and with the participation of Iran, Iraq, and the rest of the countries bordering the Gulf.
He indicated that the meeting will discuss, alongside other regional issues, the results of the Iranian-Omani talks regarding defining safe routes for commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
Baghaei emphasized that Iran is making efforts to ensure security in the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that the safety of vessels in the strait cannot be guaranteed as long as the naval blockade and American interventions continue.
Last Monday, the Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, Mohsen Rezaei, announced that an agreement with the Sultanate of Oman regarding a new corridor in the Strait of Hormuz, whose entrance and exit are under Iranian control, will be signed in the coming days.
This comes under the weight of military attacks exchanged between the United States and Iran, amid a deadlock in negotiations between them due to disputes over navigation in the strategic Strait of Hormuz for energy supplies and goods.
On February 28, the United States and Israel launched a war on Iran, which left more than 3,000 dead, according to Tehran, which responded with attacks that killed Americans and Israelis.
