Newspaper: Anticipated Meeting Between Iran and Gulf States in an Effort to Reach an Agreement on the Strait of Hormuz

The Financial Times reported on Friday that the foreign ministers of Gulf states intend to meet with their Iranian counterpart, as part of an effort led by the Sultanate of Oman and Iran to secure approval for a provisional agreement to manage navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

The newspaper cited two informed sources as saying that the meeting is scheduled to take place on Monday in the Omani coastal city of Salalah.

In a related context, the Foreign Ministry in Seoul stated that South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun held a telephone call on Friday with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi, during which they discussed the situation in the Middle East, including freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

Preliminary vessel-tracking data released on Friday showed that the number of ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz dropped to seven vessels yesterday, Thursday, compared to 11 the previous day, a level well below the ten-day average of 15 vessels.
