Russian authorities announced that at least one person was killed in the suburbs of Moscow due to a rare large-scale drone attack on the capital involving 650 drones on the night of Monday-Tuesday.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin clarified on the Russian messaging platform VKontakte that "air defenses destroyed most of these drones", including 105 as they approached the capital.
TASS reported that this is the second largest attack targeting Moscow, located hundreds of kilometers from the Ukrainian border, in recent months, which have seen an escalation in the pace of mutual strikes between the two warring countries.
Regional Governor Andrei Vorobiev said the attack resulted in the death of a 20-year-old young man in a village on the outskirts of Moscow, noting that homes in several areas were damaged.
Moscow, which denies targeting civilian infrastructure, has intensified its shelling of Ukrainian territory in recent weeks, more than four years after it began its invasion.
The Russian military threatened on Sunday to continue "intensifying" its strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure, in response to statements by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who threatened to increase Kyiv's attacks on Russian oil refineries.
