Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Dr. Saleh Al-Kharaibsheh sponsored, on Monday, the opening ceremony of a unique industrial solar energy project at the feed factory of the Northern Treasures Company – Dajjaj Al-Khair, in Mafraq, with a total capacity of 2 MW.
During the ceremony, Al-Kharaibsheh emphasized the importance of the project as a model for integration between industrial, agricultural, and productive sectors, noting that such projects contribute to enhancing energy efficiency, reducing costs for sectors, and increasing reliance on local and renewable energy sources.
He said that the government is working to support projects that contribute to enhancing energy security and diversifying its sources, pointing out that the expansion of renewable energy use is one of the main axes of the national energy sector strategy, which aims to increase the contribution of renewable energy sources in the electricity generation mix to about 40% by 2035.
Al-Kharaibsheh pointed out that the contribution of renewable energy to the electricity mix has risen from less than 1% about 12 years ago to about 27% currently, affirming the continued work on investing in technological developments in the fields of renewable energy and storage, which enhances the competitiveness of economic sectors and reduces energy costs.
He stressed that energy security is one of the most important challenges facing the Kingdom, and that the expansion of local energy sources, including renewable energy and domestic natural gas, contributes to reducing dependence on external energy sources and enhancing the national economy's ability to face fluctuations in global energy markets.
The project includes a 1 MW solar photovoltaic power plant for electricity generation, alongside a PV to Heat plant with a capacity of 1 MW for industrial steam operation, with a production capacity of up to 1.35 tons of steam/hour.
