The President of the Senate, Faisal Al-Fayez, said that His Majesty King Abdullah II put the international community before its legal, humanitarian and moral responsibilities, the necessity of working hard to achieve international security and stability and to end the conflicts and disputes taking place in the region and not to be postponed so that they do not become permanent facts, for it is the right of peoples to live freely and with a safe and stable life.
His Majesty also pointed to the challenges facing our world, such as economic inequality, food insecurity, and climate change disasters, which did not appear overnight, and the warnings from them were clear, wondering His Majesty: Will the attention to them be enough to address these challenges?, and His Majesty said that what we neglect today will often shape our future.
Al-Fayez said, in a statement issued on Tuesday evening, that His Majesty King Abdullah II's speech today, at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, carried many contents and issues related to the region and the world in a decisive, clear language and a strong tone.
He pointed out that His Majesty did not overlook talking about the repercussions of the Iranian-American-Israeli war and what is happening in the region, and put the international community in the picture of the procedures being taken by the occupying state, related to the annexation of the occupied West Bank, the building of illegal settlements on it, giving free rein to settlers and extremists to attack Palestinians and their properties, and adopting a policy of demolishing houses in order to force Palestinians to forced migration, and the continuation of its aggression on the Gaza Strip, affirming His Majesty that the practices of the occupying state in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip will push the region to more chaos and conflicts that will have repercussions on everyone.
He added: His Majesty King Abdullah II confirmed that the world is living an exceptional moment in which crises and challenges are accelerating, stressing that what the international community chooses to pay attention to determines the fate of conflicts and humanitarian crises, and His Majesty warned that what we neglect today will often shape our future, and that the world is living an exceptional moment in history, as the world has never seen this huge amount of knowledge, and this rapid pace of change, every day brings with it a new crisis, a new tragedy, and a new emergency that requires our attention all.
Al-Fayez pointed out that His Majesty emphasized the importance of paying attention to the issues and challenges of the world and the urgency of working to address them so that they do not become permanent facts.
His Majesty explained that every day in the region, from Lebanon to Yemen, passing through Sudan, the protracted conflicts lead to the exacerbation of humanitarian suffering, and if anyone has the slightest doubt that the crisis in our region remains confined to it, all they have to do is look at the energy and food bills of ordinary families in different parts of the world: from Mumbai to Madrid to Minnesota, as the war in Iran showed how quickly the lack of stability affects the disruption of trade and investment and the lives of people, outside the borders of the region.
Al-Fayez pointed out that His Majesty was clear in his speech when he pointed out that the continuation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict without a solution for decades was the result of the international community choosing to contain the conflict instead of addressing it, affirming His Majesty that what is happening in Gaza and the West Bank cannot be dealt with as separate events.
He said that His Majesty put the international community in the reality of what is happening in Gaza and the ongoing Israeli aggression on it, which cannot be considered according to the claim of the occupying state that it is just "temporary military measures, or consequences of the war".
He pointed out that His Majesty did not overlook in his speech what is happening in the West Bank, where His Majesty pointed out that the expansion of settler violence, land seizures, settlement expansion, and Palestinian displacement witnessed by the West Bank is a war crime and forced displacement, affirming His Majesty that what is happening in Gaza cannot be separated from what is happening in the occupied West Bank, and that they are two sides of the same Israeli aggressive strategy.
Al-Fayez said that His Majesty posed a direct question to the international community, which has the tools of accountability, sanctions, asset freezing, embargoes, and diplomatic isolation, when it wants, asking: Why, when it comes to Israel, do all the punishment and accountability tools that the international community has become ink on paper? He said that His Majesty is aware of the aggressive and expansionist Israeli ambitions in the region, so His Majesty warned that these Israeli policies have become a regional threat today, and warned of the repercussions of Israeli incursions in southern Syria and the attempt by the occupying state to impose a new reality on the ground.
Al-Fayez affirmed that His Majesty posed a fundamental question to the international community when he said that one of the longest occupations in the world raises a fundamental question about whether it is possible to ignore international law for decades, what remains of its value? And how can we apply it if we do not even recognize its violations? Al-Fayez pointed to what His Majesty said about Gaza, when he said: In Gaza, the evidence is overwhelming, in the first 300 days of what was called a ceasefire, at least 300 Palestinian children were martyred. Field hospitals were targeted here, and the American President Donald Trump made strenuous efforts to achieve peace and find a way to end this war, but the current Israeli government continues to ignore the agreement, continue its attacks, and destroy the civilian infrastructure in the sector, and refuses to withdraw, and tightens the noose on the Palestinians to confine them to what is barely a third of the area of Gaza.
Al-Fayez said that His Majesty's speech included the reality of what is happening in the West Bank, as the world is preoccupied with the events of Gaza, the West Bank is witnessing very dangerous developments "settlements, violence, displacement", and His Majesty pointed out that what the West Bank is witnessing is not just an escalation, but a fundamental change in the situation in the West Bank.
He said that His Majesty explained that what Israel previously considered a gradual process has now become a more aggressive approach, as the scope of settler violence is greatly expanding, Palestinians are beaten, shot, and intimidated, their homes are burned and their properties are destroyed, and families are displaced from their lands, and Israel is tightening its grip on the West Bank; where it seizes land, expands settlements, and expels Palestinians.
The President of the Senate said that His Majesty called on the international community and the world to face the reality of what is happening in the occupied West Bank, and His Majesty pointed out that the demolition of Palestinian homes to expand illegal settlements is not "the implementation of the law", but is forced displacement, and the seizure of occupied land is not "land registration", but is actual annexation, and checkpoints and chokepoints are not "security infrastructure", but are a repressive system, and the systematic attacks on Palestinian population centers are not "settler riots".
Al-Fayez affirmed that His Majesty strongly defended Jordan's national constants and supreme interests, and the security and stability of the Kingdom, explaining that His Majesty in his speech stressed that any threat to Jordan's northern borders or its water security is a threat to Jordan's national security, and that Jordan will not turn away from what is happening in southern Syria, as Jordan will protect its security, water, and the interests of its people, while affirming His Majesty at the same time the continuation of the Kingdom in confronting terrorism and drug smuggling, enhancing its defense capabilities, and building its economic, commercial, and technological ties with the region.
Al-Fayez pointed out that Jordan is a country of peace and calls for it, and from this standpoint came His Majesty's affirmation of Jordan's commitment to just peace, support for the steadfastness of the Palestinian people and UNRWA, and the continuation of bearing the Hashemite custodianship and preserving the historical and legal status quo of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, while affirming His Majesty at the same time that Jordan's adherence to diplomacy does not exceed its commitment to humanitarian values, and should not be misinterpreted as weakness.
He affirmed that the Senate stands behind His Majesty and affirms the keenness on Jordanian constants, the protection of Jordan's security and stability, and the protection of our borders from any threats that affect our national security due to regional conflicts, explaining that His Majesty's speech expresses the conscience and feelings of all Jordanians in their keenness on their homeland and its protection from any threats.
He said that the Council, as well as all Jordanians, stands behind His Majesty in every step and position, in order to protect our homeland and defend the just causes of our Arab nation, foremost of which is the Palestinian cause.
