The National Library Department hosted, yesterday, Monday, a symposium titled "Youth and Women in Jordanian Partisan Life," organized by the Badari Charitable Association for Development and Rehabilitation. The symposium discussed the importance of expanding political participation for youth and women, and their role in the political modernization process and strengthening their presence in public life and decision-making.
The symposium featured participation from MP Dunia Al-Bashir, Dr. Odai Al-Hunaity, Ibrahim Al-Awamleh, Ataf Al-Roudan, and Dr. Abdul Halim Alimat, and was moderated by Shireen Al-Abadi.
The symposium addressed the importance of enhancing the participation of youth and women in partisan work and consolidating a culture of active participation in political life, which contributes to expanding the base of societal participation and strengthening the role of citizens in public affairs.
This symposium comes in the context of the transformations witnessed by Jordanian partisan life within the framework of the political modernization path, especially in light of the Political Parties Law No. (7) of 2022, which stipulated that the percentage of women should not be less than 20% of the founders, and the percentage of youth aged between 18 and 35 should not be less than 20% of them.
In this context, data from the study "The Reality of Gender in Jordan from a Statistical Perspective" for 2025 showed an increase in the percentage of women among political party members from 27.8% in 2008 to 44.5% in 2024. It also showed that youth made up 38.4% of total participants in parties in 2024, while the percentage of women in party leadership reached 19% compared to 81% for men, highlighting the importance of discussing ways to enhance women's presence in leadership positions alongside expanding the base of participation.
The National Library Department's hosting of this symposium comes within its cultural and societal role in providing spaces for dialogue and knowledge exchange, and strengthening communication with local community institutions, which contributes to spreading awareness of national and political issues.
