A cultural partnership transforms waiting times into a cognitive journey for children at Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Hospital in Aqaba

The Aqaba Directorate of Culture has completed its cultural initiative aimed at supporting children visiting and patients at Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Hospital in Aqaba, by providing the pediatric department with a collection of children's stories and publications for young people, within a direction that contributes to providing psychological and cognitive support to children during their waiting or treatment periods.

The initiative, implemented by the Directorate within the framework of its social and cultural responsibility, aims to invest waiting and overnight times positively, and to provide children with story content that carries educational and humanitarian values, and helps to develop their skills and imagination, in addition to its role in alleviating feelings of anxiety and fear associated with illness and being in the hospital.

As part of the initiative, the children's department was provided with story publications from the Ministry of Culture, enhancing the presence of books and reading in the health environment, and giving children a different space that combines fun and benefit, turning waiting time into an opportunity for learning and exploration.

The Aqaba Directorate of Culture appreciated the cooperation and response shown by Dr. Mohammed Kreshan, Director of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Hospital, in the success of the initiative and support of its objectives, emphasizing the importance of partnership between cultural and health institutions in providing quality initiatives that serve children and society.

The Directorate also expressed its thanks and appreciation to Ayla Oasis Development Company for its contribution to equipping the shelves of the children's library, which contributed to providing a suitable environment for displaying stories and publications and making them available to children and their companions.

The initiative received positive feedback from visitors and parents of children, who praised the idea of providing stories inside the hospital, due to its impact in bringing joy to children and alleviating the atmosphere of waiting and anxiety, confirming the importance of continuing such initiatives and expanding their scope to include other health facilities and institutions.

The initiative reflects a model of community partnership that employs culture and reading in the service of human beings, especially children, by providing a more humane and positive environment within health institutions, and establishing the book as a means of knowledge, entertainment, and psychological support at the same time.
