In conjunction with the global awareness month for childhood cancers, King Abdullah University Hospital hosted a comprehensive awareness, educational, and recreational campaign on childhood cancers, under the direct supervision and coordination of pediatric consultant Dr. Dawood Yousef, and with the participation of medical staff and students from the Faculty of Medicine.
The campaign aimed to raise the level of health and community awareness about childhood cancers, to introduce the most prominent types, signs, and symptoms, and to emphasize the importance of early detection and diagnosis and their role in improving treatment and recovery chances, alongside providing psychological and moral support to children and their families.
The event witnessed wide interaction from patients, visitors, and medical students, with the number of beneficiaries and participants reaching about 300 people, in an atmosphere that combined health awareness, humanitarian support, and recreational activities.
The campaign included providing simplified medical information about the most common types of cancer in children, the most prominent signs and symptoms that require a doctor's consultation, as well as answering visitors' inquiries and providing health guidelines related to children's protection and health.
The campaign also focused on the psychological and humanitarian aspect, by enhancing the culture of empathy and community support for children with cancer and their families, and emphasizing the importance of providing a supportive environment to help them during the treatment journey.
The campaign witnessed the implementation of a group of interactive activities, including the distribution of educational publications and brochures that included simplified health information about childhood cancers, alongside the establishment of a 'Wishes and Support Board' that allowed patients and visitors to write messages of support and encouragement to children with cancer.
The event also included recreational activities for children, including face painting, distributing balloons and symbolic gifts, with the aim of bringing joy and happiness to children's hearts and creating positive atmospheres that combine education and entertainment.
At the end of the campaign, its organizers opened the door for dialogue with visitors to answer their health inquiries and questions, with the participation of specialists and medical students, which contributed to enhancing health knowledge among community members.
This campaign comes within the framework of the continuous efforts of King Abdullah University Hospital in the field of health awareness and education and enhancing its social responsibility, spreading the culture of prevention and early detection, especially regarding children's health, which enhances health awareness and supports national efforts in facing cancer diseases.
