Zelensky: I have no knowledge of the "energy truce" with Russia, but I support the idea

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he had "no knowledge" of the development announced by US President Donald Trump regarding reaching a truce between Moscow and Kyiv, under which both sides would refrain from targeting each other's energy infrastructure, but expressed his support for the idea and his country's readiness to accept it.

In a brief statement to the American news website Axios on Sunday, Zelensky explained that he was not aware of the energy-related truce announced by Trump, but affirmed that his country is ready to accept it if such an agreement has indeed been reached.

He continued: "If President Trump negotiated this with Putin, please inform us when the truce begins. We are ready and will accept it."

The Ukrainian president added: "If the Russians agree to an energy ceasefire, Ukraine will also agree to it," noting that the mentioned development came as a surprise to him.

Zelensky's remarks came days after escalating tensions between him and Trump against the backdrop of Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil refineries.

Earlier on Sunday, Trump announced reaching a "truce" between Russia and Ukraine stipulating that energy facilities and installations of both sides would not be targeted, despite the ongoing war between them.

This comes after Trump's announcement on Friday that he had reached an agreement with Putin under which Russia would immediately supply US and global markets with more than 300,000 tons of diesel, an additional 500,000 tons in November, followed immediately by 1 million tons.

It is worth noting that Russia has been waging a military offensive against Ukraine since February 24, 2022, demanding as a condition for ending it that Kyiv abandon plans to join Western military alliances, which Ukraine considers an "interference" in its internal affairs.
