The UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment announced the temporary closure of beaches and coastal areas in the Emirate of Umm Al Quwain, following the detection of marine pollution caused by an oil spill from a tanker, the effects of which reached the emirate's shores.
In a press statement, the ministry said that the pollution caused odors noticed by residents of Sharjah, Ajman, and Umm Al Quwain, confirming that they do not pose health risks to the population.
It added that specialized teams, in coordination with the relevant authorities, have begun containing the pollution, cordoning off the affected areas, and carrying out cleaning and treatment operations, while survey operations continue to ensure the safety of the marine environment.
The ministry called on fishermen and beachgoers to adhere to instructions and refrain from fishing in the affected sites, noting that the closure will continue until the work is completed and the necessary measures are determined.
It also called on the public to obtain information from official channels and avoid spreading rumors, confirming that the public will be updated on developments as they happen.
