The Turkish Foreign Ministry stated on Sunday that a committee affiliated with the Mecca Agreement for Joint Defense between Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan will hold talks in Riyadh tomorrow, Monday, in the presence of senior Turkish officials.
Rashad al-Alimi, President of the Saudi-backed Presidential Leadership Council of Yemen, announced earlier on Sunday the start of a large-scale military operation against the Iranian-allied Houthi group in Yemen to regain control of the territories under their control.
The Pakistani Foreign Minister said on Friday that Iran proposed political engagement with the Houthis following the group's attacks, an idea that the committee will discuss at a meeting in Riyadh this week.
The Turkish statement said that "the meeting will address recent developments in the region and the stage reached by efforts to institutionalize the alliance"
The statement added that Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Defense Minister Yaşar Güler, and Chief of the General Staff Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu will attend the Mecca Agreement's Political and Strategic Defense Committee meeting, along with officials from Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
