Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday that Turkey is working to refer the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement to Parliament in the coming days to complete the internal ratification procedures.
Following his chairing of the cabinet meeting in Ankara, Erdogan added that Turkey condemns in the strongest terms the attacks that targeted King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, expressing his condolences to the victims of the attacks and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.
He said that Turkey stands with Saudi Arabia and its people in the face of what he described as "illegal and inhumane" attacks.
Erdogan affirmed that his country wants peace and stability to prevail throughout the region, stressing the continuation of defending peace based on respect for territorial integrity.
Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan signed the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement on August 7, 2026, during a summit held in Mecca, with the aim of strengthening collective deterrence and defense cooperation between the three countries.
The agreement stipulates that any armed aggression against one of the three countries is considered an aggression against all of them, and it also includes strengthening various aspects of defense cooperation between them.
