US President Donald Trump confirmed on Friday that the Republicans have a "chance" to win the midterm elections, as the campaign heats up days before a vote that will determine which party controls Congress.
Trump reversed a decision to cancel two campaign rallies in the states of Kansas and Iowa, which had raised questions about his health status and the trajectory of the election race, and reinstated them on his campaign schedule for Sunday.
Trump said, "There is a lot of love at these (events) taking place across the country," before directing insults at Democratic candidates seeking to win seats in the House and Senate in the November 3rd elections.
In a speech to a crowd in Daytona, Florida, on Friday evening, Trump said these rallies are being held "for one very simple reason (which is) to prevent the communists who hate America from taking control of the United States Congress."
Trump reiterated his promise to give every adult American citizen $5,000 if the Republicans retain control of both houses of Congress. Experts questioned whether he has the legal authority to do so.
Earlier on Friday, Trump acknowledged to reporters that the parties to which presidents belong often suffer losses in midterm elections.
He added, "I think we have a chance to do well. Maybe very well, or at least fairly well."
